Brand new model year 2004 which replaces the professional scenar 97.4+.

What is new?
Design, backlight, very low energy option, line screening, circle screening, service menu and DIAN (Off, 1, 2, 3, 4) leather wallet.

What is improved?
Bigger display, battery compartment (3 AA batteries), keypath, inner circuits connections, for left and right hand use.

The basic mode of operation of Scenar devices is to deliver a "dosage" of electrical stimulation impulses to the body via an in-built and/or remote electrode in direct contact with the skin surface. These impulses have been tailored to mimic the electrical discharges of the nervous system, in order to elicit the organism's response with optimum efficiency and minimum disruption to cell function, depending upon the unique requirements of the presenting pain disease dynamics (or lack of the same). The action is aimed at both the "fast" pain blocking A-fibres and the "slow" pain producing and peptide generating C-fibres.

The signal stream, comprising waveform, signal strength (voltage and current) and frequency, can be varied in a number of ways, either by preselection by the operator or automatically by the control circuitry of the device. The "dosage" can be delivered automatically or overridden at the discretion of the operator, with guidance from visual indicators on numeri LED display.

The basic signal component is a bipolar pulse, consisting of a negative square-wave followed by a positive saw-tooth, starting and finishing at zero and lasting for a few microseconds. A number of these pulses may be packaged into a discrete burst (intensity) which itself may be repeated at a fixed default frequency. The individual pulses in these bursts (intensity more than 1) can themselves be spaced out (Z=10/close together, to 80/wide apart) to give a concentrated (deep) or diffuse (shallow) penetration, depending on local body density or depth of pain location.

Alternatively, a single pulse (intensity=1) may be preselected to a pulse repeat rate (PRP) over a set frequency range (say F=15-351 Hz). The signal may also be "modulated":
AM=Off, 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5, BEE (amplitude modulation),
FM=Off, On, Swing (frequency modulation),
DMPF=Off, Sk1, Sk2, Sk3, Sk4, Var.
These "modulations" can either be applied individually or together.

There is also the possibility of automatically cycling both the repeat rate (PRP) over a set frequency range (FM -say from 30 to 180 Hz over 8 seconds) and the waveform damping factor (Dmpf =VAR). These cyclical modes can again be invoked either individually or together.

The purpose of all these variants is to make available to the operator a comprehensive arsenal with which to stimulate both acute and chronic conditions and prevent the body from adapting to the signal before there has been time to generate sufficient neuropeptides (endophins, etc.) to releave pain and create an enhanced environment for the organism to bring into play its own healing pharmacy to move towards homeostasis.

The power output can be set by the operator to be detectable but comfortable for the patient. It can also be adjusted during application should this be required. The maximum current output is 70 mA and the peak voltage is 180 V, derived from three internal AA batteries.

A further level of chaos is introduced by a random variation of the pulse amplitude from zero to the chosen comfort such that no two pulses are the same. This discourages adaptation in the organism. A feedback mechanism is provided by the constant monitoring of skin impedance, which will change with time and "dosage" delivered. Integration of these values permits calculation and display of rate of change (of current flow) and coefficient of waveform in relation to the starting point.

Scenar devices adhere to the concept that the maximum dosage required to effect change is the most appropriate. Ths is furthered by emphasis on increase of information rather than energy content, thus minimising the triggering of body retaliation and adaptation mechanisms.

Optional attachments: face, skull and point.

Interview with Alexander Karasev - Scenar Founding Researcher

How does it work?
The SCENAR works by making the bodyís own immune system operate more efficiently. Technically it is a very complicated device which sends electronic impulses via the skin to the brain but it was designed to be used by anybody without any special medical training. You just hold it over the affected area or organ and it sends an amplified signal of pain to the brain. This causes the brain to trigger the bodyís immune system, and, hey presto, after only a few minutes of treatment, the patient starts feeling much better.

We have been using the SCENAR for 20 years now and have had numerous miraculous recoveries. If a patient comes in on crutches, he just forgets about their existence, leaving them behind in the doctorís surgery as if he never had them.

How did the device come to be developed?
It all began when the whole of our family got food poisoning. It was an awful time and I lost my sister. But one thing I realised was that conventional medicine with all those modern pills and potions did not help. I had in fact studied reflexology and acupuncture for many years but these didnít seem to work either so I realised that there was a need for something else. Of course we werenít the first who thought about sending electronic signals to the brain but we managed to refine the technique: to make the signal similar to that carried in a bodyís nerve tissue after distortion caused by the skin, fat and suchlike.

Who was involved? Where were you based?
I worked for many years on the medical programme at the Cosmonaut Training Centre and they were doing something similar there. But Iíd stared working on the device even before that in my home town,Taganrog. I only demonstrated it to the space program scientists once Iíd made the first operating version and had achieved successful results.

So was it used in space?
The space programme was controlled by the military and they ordered something slightly different. I didnít think the device they wanted worked quite so well but I did my best anyway. They were planning to use the SCENAR in later space projects like Buran for example but then the Soviet Union fell apart. Recently various cosmonauts have wanted to take it up into space and test it outside the official medical programme, but this hasnít quite worked out yet.

What proof have you got that it actually works?
If I had to prove it to you it would probably take me about 10 minutes. I can demonstrate it on anything, even the wrinkles on the skin. Rejuvenation. If you compare the treated and non-treated parts of the face, for instance, you can see the difference clearly. Or if you have a bruise somewhere itíll take 10-15 minutes to demonstrate initial effect. I have introduced the SCENAR to maternity hospitals and it heals all the bruises and traumas in newly born babies within a few minutes.
It even works on such difficult-to-cure diseases as psoriasis. People who have suffered for 15 years, can forget about their skin traumas and their asthma after only about ten sessions. The important thing to remember is that the device is not in itself a cure. It merely stimulates your own immune system and uses your bodyís own potential. In fact the less you are poisoned by chemical drugs and hormonal medicines, the more response we can get using the SCENAR and the greater the chance of recovery.

Have you benefited at all in medical terms?
I myself have not used any drugs for 15 years. I do not remember what tablets you use for a headache. I always use the SCENAR. When my children were little, the teachers in the kindergarten were really annoyed with me because my children would still be at school when all the other kids were down with flu. They said, ìCanít you keep them at home like everyone else?" Basically, they wanted to go home themselves and the only reason they had to be at school was to look after my children.

How about the financial reward? Have you profited from the invention?
I have not benefited yet. I have tended to shy away from publicity because it is bad for the creative process. In fact, this is my first interview ever. But other people of course have taken advantage of the device. One doctor was treating a large number of senior politicians saying that the device was from Japan. But it doesnít bother me. My ultimate aim is that the SCEANR should become readily available to families worldwide so that people could have it there in their first aid boxes and treat themselves. It really is the most reliable thing.

Scenar in Sports Medicine

This report by S Moiseev was published in the Digest ìSCENAR-therapy and SCENAR-examinationî 3rd edition, Taganrog, Russia, 1997.
SCENAR devices have shown themselves to be effective in the treatment of a wide variety of pathological conditions of the human body. They have also been well proven as highly effective under ambulance conditions. The continual search for new directions in the application of SCENAR has led to its use in sports medicine. Modern sport features constantly increasing psychological and physical pressures. Topical examples include the treatment of sports trauma, enhancing physical stability, treatment of general diseases and complete and fast rehabilitation of athletes, as well as the extension of an active sports life.

Portability, low weight and simplicity of application allow the Skenar device to be used not only in hospitals, but at ìon-the-spotî training sessions, in transport situations and at the hotel. It is well known that the shorter the time interval between trauma, injury or the beginning of a disease and SCENAR therapy, the greater the effectiveness of treatment, resulting in easier passage of the disease and a quicker recovery process. Thus the presence of a SCENAR specialist at competitions, training sessions or other locations of a sports team can significantly increase the effectiveness of medical help.

One group of SCENAR specialists has accumulated considerable experience in medical provision, in particular, for competitions at different super-marathon distances. Because of the high dynamic pressure and long duration of these competitions, athletes have to repeatedly resort to massage therapists, use different ointments and extend their relaxation time in relation to increased pressure. All this inevitably leads to a reduction of performance. High numbers of participants usually create problems such as a shortage of massage therapists and a lack of available help for everybody.

SCENAR meets Athlete
In Odessa, Ukraine in April 1996, a regular race over 100km took place with 56 athletes from Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Belarus, Germany and Canada participating. Their ages ranged from 17 to 75 years. The circuit was built parallel to the sea coast, forming an 8km ring. The SCENAR specialists started to work with participants the day before the competition started. Since most athletes had never heard of a SCENAR, a lecture was given about the capabilities and applications of the device, and an opportunity was offered to try it out. This invoked some interest and many questions. Two athletes, who because of previous traumas were not going to participate in the competition, but had only come to support their team-mates, decided to try the new therapy. One man had a fractured tibia and the other a severe contusion of soft tissues. Their main complaint was intense and constant pain in their legs.

After 10-15 minutes of treatment they noticed a significant improvement in their condition and the pain disappeared. They then wanted to participate in the competition along with the other, and one of the athletes actually did so. The obvious results of this first treatment procedure that had been witnessed by everybody, confirmed what had been said on the initial lecture and partly dispelled their doubts. One more lecture was given on the next day, right before the competition started. The offer was repeated and this time was accepted with greater enthusiasm.

Comparison with Traditional Massage Therapy
During the course of the competition SCENAR treatment was provided on the tables used by the massage therapists, working side by side with them. The main complaints after two hours of running up until the end of the competition were spasms and ìblockingî of the leg muscles, ìexhaustionî of the ankles, lumbar and sacral parts of the back. Athletes were able to interrupt their run to get this versatile help, but the stop-watch did not stop! SCENAR specialists were working mostly ìon the complaintî and each successive appeal for help was considered as a new complaint. To relax back muscles and remove exhaustion the ìthree pathwaysî (spine, and left and right vagal route) were treated ? with stress on the lumbar region. Attention to tendons was shown to be effective. Work on the lower extremities was finished off by focusing on two acupuncture points of the foot. The average procedure time was 5?15 minutes, sometimes as little as 2?3 minutes, which was significantly less than the time necessary for massage.

Athletes quickly noticed both a restoration of the working capacity of their muscles and relief from tiredness, allowing them to increase their running tempo. With each new circuit more and more athletes asked for the help of the SCENAR specialists and fewer and fewer stayed with the massage. The effectiveness and speed of providing help spoke for itself and the fame of this wonderful device grew like a snowball. Good competition results were also achieved. On the day after the event, SCENAR therapy was given to a group of athletes to relieve tiredness. After the treatment everybody got up together and went sightseeing ? something that had never happened before!

Super-Marathon Success
The Ukrainian Federation of Light Athletes, impressed with the results of the competition and the effectiveness of the new treatment, soon invited the SCENAR specialists to provide medical help for the Ukranian super-marathon national team at the competition in Switzerland. SCENAR specialist Oleg Lutov was sent to join the team. He started to work during the journey, giving treatment to team members and their companions for renal colic, angina pectoris, upset stomach, toothache and headache. The treatment was given directly in the bus and, in addition to direct medical benefits, had a significant economic effect due to the avoidance of expensive emergency help in Switzerland. A lot of work was done during that competition, especially taking into account that during free time help was given to everybody who asked for it. Certain difficulties were created by the language barrier, but this was overcome. The Ukranian national team took first place.

European Athletes Exposed to SCENAR
After further accumulation of experience, a group of SCENAR specialists decided to support our athletes in the 13th super-marathon. On the 5th October 1996 in Odessa at the Spartak Stadium, the 1000 mile run was started. On the 14th the participants were joined by ì6 dayî runners and on the 19th the European Cup ìround the clockî run started. The competition was attended by the best athletes, record holders and prize- winners of different super-marathon distances from Ukraine, Moldova, Belarus, Latvia, Lithuania, England and Germany.

The work was alleviated by the fact that the event took place entirely in the Stadium. Athletes could watch the work of the SCENAR specialists and make a decision as to when to have a treatment. Generally each participant received 3-5 procedures per day. They showed good results and commendable responses were received from all those who undertook treatment. The 1000 mile run exhibited some interesting and intriguing elements. For the first two days George Ermolaev was leading the field ? an experienced athlete holding the second fastest world result over this distance, as well as world records over 1300 miles and 2700 miles. In the early stages George set the pace for the competition, attempting to beat the existing world record. He refused to use SCENAR support but later regretted it when he had to leave the race prematurely (and then could not avoid the SCENAR procedure).

The pace of the competition was also supported by an English athlete, Richard Brown, eight time champion of Great Britain, also after a new world record. On the third day of the competition he outstripped Ermolaev and continued to increase the gap between them. He only started to use SCENAR procedures after the fourth day, deterred perhaps on the one hand because of the language barrier and English modesty, but prompted on the other hand by the obvious progress of other athletes who used the treatment. There was a lot of work for the SCENAR specialists. Already in the third hour of the event a Russian athlete from Istra, V Glaskov, suffered a deep wound between the 4th and 5th fingers of his left hand following a fall. SCENAR procedure on both sides of the hand and wrist quickly stopped the bleding and removed pain, without any bandage. But on the night of the same day Glaskov troubled by an old heel complaint, began to limp and to think about leaving the race. SCENAR therapy 4-5 times a day was suggested, but in fact the first 8 minute procedure completely killed the pain and inspired confidence in success.

Massage therapy abandoned in favour of SCENAR ? A hailstorm of records
On the third day of the competition all the athletes left their massage therapists to be supported only by SCENAR specialists. All of them gave positive responses, noticing significant ìlightnessî of run and less tiredness in comparison with their previous experiences. Benefits recorded were increased tempo of run, reduction of rest time and significant improvement in the intermediate results.

As a result of the combined efforts of both the athletes and the SCENAR specialists, records began to fall ìas though from the Horn of Plentyî. English athlete Richard Brown (47 years old) established a world record over a distance of 1100km, then over 700 miles (8 days 9 hrs 23 min 48 sec). His next world record was over 1200km (9 days 1hr 20 min 24sec). But then he had to leave the competition because of stomach ache and upset stomach that started at night when SCENAR specialists were not around. An emergency doctor fed Richard with pills which evoked severe vomiting and as a result of this 5 hours were lost. His stomach ache remained until he was able to receive SCENAR treatment.
At the same distance of 1200km the world record was also broken by I Vasutin (45 years old) and V Glaskov, who continued to limp a little because of his heel but persisted with his SCENAR procedures.

In Conclusion
The many days of work experience clearly shows that SCENAR technology can be successfully used in sports medicine as emergency help and as a means to significantly increase potential reserves of the human body. Certainly, it would be better for each sports team to have on its staff a SCENAR specialist, who would monitor and support his team continuously. Knowing the capacities of SCENAR, you can look with different eyes on the famous tragic episodes in sports life and come to the conclusion that the SCENAR device and technology have a great future in sport, and can help to stimulate a hail of world records in different sports disciplines.

Scenar Energy Healing

The SCENAR, Self-Controlled Energo Neuro Adaptive Regulator, was developed for the Russian space program to overcome the unique challenges of space travel. Pharmaceuticals were impractical due to the specificity of each drug -they would have lead to a need to store a huge variety and large quantities of drugs; and also due to the introduction of toxins into the water recycling, one drug might treat the whole crew!!
A Russian team of doctors and scientists, based at Sochi University and lead by a Dr Karasev in the late 70s developed a method of treatment that was energy efficient, multi-applicable, portable and also non-invasive. They were the first people to achieve repeatable therapeutic treatment using electrical signals to stimulate the immune system. Head scientist Professor Revenko claimed that there were very few illnesses Scenar could not treat and often cure. Tests conducted in Russia have since shown the Scenar has proven itself to be effective in 80% of cases. The Scenar was immediately dubbed - the Star Trek device - by the Press because of its origins and its similarity to the all-curing medical scanner used in Star Trek .

How it works
The Scenar uses bio-feedback by stimulating the nervous system, it is able to teach the body to heal itself. The device sends out a series of signals through the skin and measures the response. Each signal is only sent out when a change, in response to the previous signal, is recorded in the electrical properties of the skin. Visible responses include reddening of the skin, numbness, stickiness (the device will have the feeling of being magnetically dragged), a change in the numerical readout and an increase in the electronic clattering of the device.

The C-fibres, which comprise 85% of all nerves in the body, react most readily to the electro-stimulation and are responsible for the production of neuropeptides and other regulatory peptides. The body can get accustomed to a stable pathological state, which may have been caused by injury, disease or toxicity. The Scenar catalyses the process to produce regulatory peptides by stimulation of C-fibres for the body to use where necessary. It is these neuropeptides that in turn re-establish the bodyís natural physiological state and are responsible for the healing process. As these peptides last up to several hours, the healing process will continue long after the treatment is over. The large quantity of neuropeptides and C-fibres in the Central Nervous System can also result in the treatment on one area aiding anotherís chemical imbalances, correcting sleeplessness, appetite and behavioral problems.

In Russia there are well over 500,000 cases of the deviceís use and some 11,000 practitioners currently use the device as their principal treatment instrument. A vast wealth of information is available from research papers, clinical reports and training manuals. The device is used on most types of disease or injury: circulatory, sensory, respiratory, neurological, genital-urinary, musculoskeletal, gastro-intestinal, endocrine, immune and psychological disorders.

The Scenar is also credited with vastly reducing recovery times. Russian athletes have been known not only to compete after serious injuries, but even to break world records. In accident and emergency wards, its ability to aid recovery is used to help victims of cardiac arrest, massive trauma and coma. It has recently been discovered to also aid in improving learning ability, memory, sexual function and improved physical health.

Scenar value in pain relief
Both cancer and fracture patients have found more pain relief from the release of natural opoids after Scenar treatment than from administered opiates.

Treatment
The Scenar weighs approx. 300 grams, is 200 mm in length and runs from a 9 volt battery. This hand held instrument is run over the spine and abdomen or the infected area, recording the resistance response to its signals and using its sophisticated software to return a fresh signal. A gentle tingling / stroking sensation will be felt. The doctor / practitioner will be looking for anomalies on the skin surface, which may be highlighted by redness, numbness, stickiness, or a change in numerical display or sound. Although these areas may not seem to directly relate to the obvious symptom, by treating these asymmetries (as the Russians call them), the healing process will begin!

Patients having Scenar treatment need to take responsibility for their health and are advised to participate actively in their treatment and recovery process. The chemical compounds released by this form of stimulation of the nerves, affect not only problem areas, but also circulate in the blood treating other areas of the body. This goes some way to explaining how old and often forgotten problems are brought to the surface for treatment. The Russians state that a chronic problem may take up to 6 weeks treatment, with long lasting effectiveness. Acute problems may take as few as one or two treatments. They say that the Scenario has proved effective in 80% of all cases, of which full recovery occurs in two-thirds and significant healing in the others.

What conditions can Scenar treat
In the UK the devices are licensed by the British Standards Institution CE mark for pain relief and pain management . However, by the nature of the device, viz stimulating the nervous system, the Russian experience and that of many more doctors worldwide is that the Scenar affects the whole body system with safety. The Russian experience suggests that it can be effective for a broad range of diseases and conditions, which include treating ENT, eyes, skin, dental issues, burns, fractures, bites, allergies, blood, diseases of the immune system, endocrine, nutritional and metabolic disorders, stress and depression, etc.

How often will I need treatment
In order to create a continuous flow of circulating, regulative peptides, Scenar action must be given quite often. For any fresh injury or acute inflammatory process, treatment needs to be intensive, ideally once or twice a day. For chronic conditions, treatments need to be given three / four times a week initially. As things improve, frequency can be reduced. A course of treatment will vary from individual to individual, taking into account such factors as the stage of the pathological process, the personís age, state of health, and so on.

Scenar impulses are similar to endogenous nerve impulses, therefore non-damaging and safe. People with cardiac pacemakers should not risk treatment.  Scenar should not be used during pregnancy.

What about my conventional treatment
It makes sense always to inform your doctor about Scenar treatment.  Scenar treatment may enable you to reduce or even stop taking some medication but only under the supervision of your doctor.

What else do I need to know
During the treatment of chronic conditions, occasionally a healing crisis may occur (complete lack of energy and feeling of malaise). This arises when the body is getting rid of toxic energy too rapidly. There are Scenar techniques to manage this situation.  For best results it is advisable not to bathe or shower for two hours before and after treatment. It may be necessary to shave an area of the body to ensure good contact between the skin / head and the nervous system. Patients generally experience an increase in energy, good sleep and better well-being.

How does Scenar therapy differ from other therapies
There are several ways in which it differs from other electrical therapies. Unlike TENS machines (for example) each impulse is different from the previous one, so the body is unable to adapt to the signal (often habituation leads to health problems). The Scenar signal is high amplitude so it stimulates C-fibres, which make up about 85% of the bodyís nervous system. This explains the quick effectiveness of Scenar therapy on the whole body. Scenar therapists are now to be found worldwide and the Internet is enabling them to share their knowledge base regardless of race or culture.

Veterinary Use of Scenar
By Roger S. Meacock BVSc. MRCVS

I have been primarily involved in Equine and Large animal practice with Scenar, although I have treated a number of small animals with great success.  I have been using Skenar on a regular basis since December 1998.
The Russian experience of Scenar is largely human orientated. As far as we know there are no Veterinarians using Scenar (other than myself) although there have been anecdotal reports of Scenar therapists treating a few cats and dogs. In one such reported case an aged cat with kidney stones which was regarded as a poor anaesthetic risk was successfully treated using Scenar with just 2 treatments. The Russians state that good effects are obtained using the paws, ears, hairless areas of the belly and mucosal surfaces to interface with the Scenar. Animals may be unsure of the Scenar for the first treatment, although subsequent treatments are welcomed on the whole. The comb probe can also be used to treat areas covered in fur.

Horses: I have mostly used Scenar for musculo-skeletal problems to very good effect. Acute injuries respond remarkably quickly (3 ?5 treatments). Chronic injuries such as tendon thickening respond well in about 5 ? 10 treatments and normal function will frequently return although the tendon itself may still remain slightly thickened.

Conditions which have responded well include colic, scouring, cuts, torn gastrocnemius tendon, iliac thrombosis, sesamoid fracture, sore backs, persistent lameness of unknown origin. Secondary effects have been found as a result of treatment which have included cessation of wind-sucking, disappearance of a sweat patch which recurred after exercise over the area of an old haematoma, corneal opacity.

Farm animals: I have used Scenar to good effect for burns in a pig, high cell count cows, infected joints (calves and cows), facial paralysis (heifer), contracted tendon (very young lamb), swollen testicle (ram), lameness in cows, sheep and goats.

Small animals: I have found favourable results from using Scenar for lamenesses, inflammatory mass on toe, Chronic Degenerative Radiculo-Myopathy, spondylitis, back end collapse, diarrhoea, enlarged tendon, arthritis etc.

From the above results, I have little doubt that the range of conditions which Scenar can potentially help with in animals is unlikely to be any different from the Basic Results Overview for people. My personal opinion having treated both animals and people is that animals tend to have a more positive mental attitude and appear to respond and recover more quickly.
