ANSWERS

1) What Do I Wear?
1) Your therapist will leave the room so you may disrobe in private. You will have a sheet or towel to cover with during your massage so you won't be uncomfortable. You may leave whatever clothing you want on or you may have the freedom to remove all your clothing. Your level of comfort will be respected at all times.

2) Can You Work On Just My Back?
2) We will discuss what area is bothering you at the beginning of the session and then focus on the problem. We have often found that working the opposite muscle relieves the main complaint more effectively.

3) Will The Massage Hurt?
3) Healthy tissue does not hurt, unhealthy tissue does! Be sure to tell us if it is a "good" hurt or a "bad" hurt. After we have smoothed out the spasms the pain will lessen and then go away.

7) Do You Accept Insurance?
7) Insurance billing is assessed individually because many insurance plans do not accept massage therapists into their plans. PPO's and HMO's will only pay for a physical therapist, however auto insurance pays 80% to 100% for massage therapy. Please consult your individual insurance carrier for specific details.

HARA SHIATSU

Hara Shiatsu was developed by Naoichi Kuzome, a Shiatsu Therapist living in Kotohira, Japan. Diagnostics and treatments are straight forward and extreamly effective. They may be used in clinical settings or as home treatments. Abdominal diagnosis is performed with attention to hardness, tightness, lumps, looseness, weakness, and reactions or sensations that move with pressure. The treatments themselves are almost entirely oriented to patient self-involvment in the healing process. Practitioners of this therapy act as teachers, using their skills to show patients how to treat themselves. Coupled with breathing exercises and the use of moxa at home, many problems are relieved without further clinical visits. This style of treatment helps relieve the financial burden associated with many chronic conditions. Kuzome comments that he treats everything through the abdomen from knee pain to toothaches, and he stresses the importance of home treatments and patients involvment in their healing process.

REFLEXOLOGY

Reflexology states that there are reflex areas in the hands and feet that correspond to every part of the body, including organs and glands, and that these parts can be effected by stimulating the appropriate reflex areas. Reflexology is used to relieve stress and tension, stimulate deep relaxation, improve the blood supply and promote unblocking of the nerve impulses in order to normalise and ballance the entire body.
