How Does Biofeedback Work?

by Galina Semyonova on January 27, 2013

Biofeedback is the process of monitoring the body’s involuntary responses, in order to teach the person to develop control of these functions. Bodily responses such as heart rate, muscle tension, blood flow, and brain waves are The Biofeedback Loopmonitored carefully using electronic equipment. The therapist then uses the information that they gather during each session to teach the patient how to adapt to the responses of their body in order to control specific symptoms.

Residents of the Big Apple who suffer from everything from migraines to depression may be able to obtain relief when they find the right biofeedback therapist in New York. Biofeedback therapy can help patients with many symptoms, from all walks of life. If you suffer from regular symptoms or chronic illness, biofeedback treatment may be the right option for you.

Biofeedback Offers Immediate Feedback

Unlike many traditional medical treatments, biofeedback offers participants immediate feedback on their symptoms. During each session, the participant’s responses are very obvious to the biofeedback therapist. The therapist can see each involuntary response, then track it to work out how to prevent future symptoms. This immediate feedback is one of the biggest benefits of biofeedback therapies.

Biofeedback Can Treat Multiple Conditions

Unlike some natural therapies, which concentrate on one set of symptoms or a single syndrome, biofeedback can treat a multitude of conditions. Because each biofeedback therapist identifies a variety of symptoms and helps the patient control their bodily responses, the therapy can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions. Whether you suffer from diabetes, heart disease, or persistent headaches, biofeedback may help you get your symptoms under control.

Biofeedback is Non Invasive

Biofeedback doesn’t involve needles, physical therapy, or large life changes for patients. Instead, each patient works with biofeedback therapies over time to alter their physical responses to their conditions. Biofeedback isn’t painful, and the treatment works gradually over time. Patients experience relief from their symptoms after only a few sessions, and the treatments are relatively long-lasting.

Biofeedback Works Well for Drug-Resistant Patients

Whether you dislike medications or are allergic to multiple medications, biofeedback may work well for you. Drug resistant patients may find that they’re able to control their body’s reactions and eventually minimize the number of prescription medications they’re currently taking. Patients with medication allergies, or patients who simply prefer natural treatments, may find that they respond very well to biofeedback therapies.

Whether you suffer from chronic headaches, diabetes, high blood pressure, or other serious and chronic health issues, biofeedback may be able to help. The therapy has multiple benefits, including the immediate feedback it provides, the possibility of treating multiple conditions simultaneously, and the fact that biofeedback treatments are non-invasive. Biofeedback also involves no medication or drug therapy, making it attractive to drug-resistant patients.

Therapists simply monitor patients involuntary physical responses, then work with the patients to modify them as needed. This allows patients to adjust their lives and lifestyles accordingly, so that they can prevent future health conditions caused by their current symptoms.

Understanding Acupuncture

by Galina Semyonova on January 3, 2013

Acupuncture in New YorkAccording to many studies in animals and humans, acupuncture can cause many biological responses. Its effects can occur close to the site of  application or at some distance throughout your body, primarily mediated by the central nervous system and its neurons. In some cases, the effects can be observed both locally and generally.

The role of acupuncture in the body is still being researched to determine its efficacy and to understand its mechanism more. The most common focus on the uses of acupuncture is pain relief or what we call analgesia. It is not surprising since many people suffer from chronic illness such as rheumatoid arthritis, vertebral distortion and the likes which are undeniably painful. It has also been documented to have an effect towards the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland. This supports the idea that acupuncture has broad spectrum systemic effects. Other studies have also shown that it has immunologic effects which are still unclear.

Considerable efforts have been exerted to know more about acupuncture and its “acupuncture points” which still remain debatable. Despite the uncertainty of some information about the technique, it continues to play an important role in the evaluation of patients and the formulation of treatment in acupuncture. The specificity of biological changes of acupuncture in humans is still vague; therefore, accuracy in measuring the biological changes in control groups is vital. Some of the biological changes are that of blood pressure and the release of endogenous opioids.

The therapeutic outcome may be influenced by many factors which include the degree of trust between the clinician and the patient, the quality of relationship, the compatibility of the backgrounds and belief systems of the acupuncturist and the patient, the expectations of the patient including the many factors that define the therapeutic setting.

Some of the uses of acupuncture are its efficiency in treating nausea and vomiting in adults post-surgery or those under chemotherapy treatment and a number of other conditions. Despite these facts, research continues in order to define the role of acupuncture in healthcare. The method provides not only a chance to discover its many benefits in healthcare; it also opens an opportunity for exploration of human physiology not previously examined in a systematic manner.

Although the full effect of the method still remain unclear, it is promising to note that research studies have already been delineated making it easier for further studies to trace the flow of improvements. It is wise to be open-minded about Oriental medicine if you are looking for a natural and drug free alternative to conditions successfully treated with acupuncture.

The China Connection.

Acupuncture originated in China wherein the energy flow “Qi” is considered important for a person’s health. A disruption of the energy flow throughout the body can result in illnesses or certain diseases.

The theory states that needle insertion at certain points on our skin can actually alter some physiologic phenomenon in our body. Many Western doctors today include acupuncture as part of the healthcare interventions alongside the conventional ones. Sometimes you need to rely on more natural ways to counteract some diseases, stress or psychological bearings.

As I mentioned earlier, one example is its efficacy in adult post-operative and chemotherapy nausea and vomiting. Generally, nausea and vomiting is the side effect of anesthesia during surgery and by the chemotherapy drugs in the treatment of cancer. Also noted is its efficacy in alleviating post-operative dental pain. It can also be useful as an adjunct treatment or an acceptable alternative in a comprehensive management program for menstrual cramps, asthma, tennis elbow, stroke rehabilitation, addiction, low back pain,  osteoarthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome and headaches.

The resurgence of acupuncture alongside conventional treatment, has made it readily available for the public to benefit from. Just remember it’s important you choose the reliability of a New York acupuncturist who is licensed and certified. Check with a friend or relative if they know a good acupuncturist they’ve had results with. Read the testimonials on their website to see what others say about the practitioner and their skills and bedside manners.

The Healing Powers of Acupuncture New York

by Galina Semyonova on September 3, 2012

Acupuncture New York is basically a procedure that uses ultra thin needles to elicit a therapeutic effect that leads to the treatment of a condition.  According to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) the body has thousands of acupuncture points spread all over the body which are connected to pathways of energy called meridians where vital energy or chi flows.

It is the responsibility of the acupuncturist to inform the patient about what acupuncture does and how it works and to put to rest any misconceptions or myths they might have regarding acupuncture. Acupuncture entails the introduction of filiform needles into specific acupuncture points or acupoints in the body.  The needles are maneuvered into place to stimulate the release of chemicals for the removal of illnesses and pain.  The insertion of the needle into the skin is itself not a painful process sice the needles used are much thinner than those used in hospitals and medical clinics and if the procedure is performed by a qualified and experienced acupuncturist.

Numerous studies and research about acupuncture have been done to see how it works in treating illnesses.  Acupuncture provides a lot of health benefits and can treat illnesses such as extreme stress, depression, anxiety, emotional disorders, hyperacidity, irritable bowel syndrome, arthrosis/arthritis, menstrual cramps, PMS, allergies, diarrhea, constipation, vertigo, contusions, sprains, contractures, tremors, muscle pain and spasms and chronic or acute pain and many more.  The World Health Organization acknowledges acupuncture as one of the known treatments that can be effective in treating dozens of conditions.  This treatment is truly versatile and one of nature’s gift to the human race.

If you are considering undergoing acupuncture be sure to go to a good acupuncturist who will take the time to get acquainted with his patients.  This is not only to establish trust but to know also the patient’s state of health much better.  The patient’s health can include his/her spiritual, mental, emotional and physical health.  This is important for the acupuncturist to work out a treatment plan specific for the condition of the patient.  The treatment plan will address not only the symptoms of the illness but the root cause of the illness as well.  One perfect example of this is the symptoms manifested by chronic fatigue and diarrhea but the true underlying cause of the chronic fatigue and diarrhea may be energy depletion of the spleen.  If the disorder patterns are identified and diagnosed, the acupuncturist can then know the right approach to take to heal the patient.

The approach and concepts used by acupuncture and Western medicine are totally different.  Western medicine applies the disciplines of life science disciplines and empirical thought to diagnose and treat a patient.  Acupuncture and TCM, on the other hand applies the philosophies of Taoism and naturalism, which incorporates abstract concepts such as chi and yin/yang in explaining the mechanics of health and life.

by Galina Semyonova on August 27, 2012

If you want to lose weight and suffer no side effects at the same time then acupuncture is the treatment you need.  This therapy is a holistic, effective and very safe procedure that more and more people are choosing it over the conventional western types of treatment which consist of dangerous crash diets and diet pills that are made of toxic substances that have unpleasant side effects.  It is very hard for a lot of people to discipline themselves with a healthy diet and regular exercise that is why they are looking for a better way to help them become thin.

Acupuncture is an age-old oriental form of treatment that gives people so any health benefits.  Acupuncture is used to treat It has treated chemical and behavioral addictions, ailments, sickness and high emotional tensions for thousands of years that has plagued the human race since the dawn of civilization.  The rise of the fast food culture as well as the very stressful manner Western culture treats work has caused people to overeat.  The largest amount of obese people is concentrated in the US.

Excess weight not only makes you look unattractive, it can also give you a plethora or sicknesses and diseases.  Research has shown that being overweight actually increases more the amount of stress anxiety and frustration and anxiety in a person’s life.  People with minimal stress in their body and mind are more in control of their eating habits.

Acupuncture involves the introduction of fine needles into certain points in the body to enervate them so as to produce therapeutic outcomes.  The needles sometimes produce a tingling sensation during an acupuncture session.  Sometimes the patient does not feel anything at all.

In the treatment of obesity or excess weight ear acupuncture is often the technique chosen.  The ear possesses acupuncture points or acupoints that connect to energy vessels that in turn are associated to the major organs of the body that govern certain body functions.   These energy vessels called meridians are stimulated by the needles to help control your appetite.  The needles help stimulate the release of the enkephalins and endorphins to make the patient feel clam and relaxed.  It also helps him get to control his cravings.  After the session, the acupuncturist may attach a magnetic bead  to the patient’s and when his cravings becomes too strong after, he only needs to rub the bed to remove the cravings.  He may need to wear this bead till after the next session.

Acupuncture helps the body cope with addictions and cravings such as food cravings.  It does this in a natural and safe manner enabling the body fend and fight for its own recovery.  Ear acupuncture is still used in China to help people overcome addictions and cravings like it has been doing for millennia.

Some Do’s and Don’ts Regarding Acupuncture Treatment

by Galina Semyonova on August 20, 2012

NYC AcupunctureYou might not be sure about getting acupuncture New York because it is a treatment you are really not familiar with and all you’ve heard about this treatment is that it uses needles which already raise scary thoughts about it.  You may also wonder about how much it costs but you may be attracted to it because you know it as an all natural treatment that has been around for a long time.

The first thing you can do is to go and visit an acupuncturist who can also be your doctor since a lot of physicians are now practicing medical acupuncturists.  You can inquire all about this treatment and if it can treat your specific health problem.  Do not be ashamed to ask questions that deal with this treatment and about the qualifications, credentials and experience of the acupuncturist.  Conferring with the acupuncturist regarding any concerns gives you peace of mind and makes you better informed about what acupuncture can do.

If you have undergone acupuncture treatment, the next best thing to do is to drink copious amounts of fluids.  You need to stay hydrated to wash away toxins that may need a little help to push them out of the body system.  You might experience specific body aches if you are not fully hydrated.   After drinking fluids, you may need to rest your body.  Sometimes after an acupuncture treatment, you might feel tired.  You can rest or sleep if you want to.  Do not expose yourself to a full day of work if possible after you have been treated with acupuncture.  If after treatment you might feel energized, you can be active but be sure not to stress yourself.

Another thing you should do after an acupuncture treatment is to avoid drinking alcohol.  You need to refrain from drinking alcohol at least for one full day (24hours).  One main reason to refrain from alcohol intake is that the body has more difficulty in filtering out toxins from the body.  The fact is alcohol does add more toxins to the body causing the liver and kidney to overwork and damaging them as well.

One thing you can do also is to eat healthy diets.  Acupuncture has restored balance in the body and this balance can be thrown into disarray once again when you eat a poor unhealthy diet.  If you do want to eat junk foods then eat them as minimally as possible and not regularly.  Foods rich in proteins and vegetables are best to help you maintain proper balance in the body.

Before and after undergoing acupuncture, do not travel long distances for at least a day.  Allow your body to completely rest to be able to maximize the benefits of the treatment.

Before surgery, the patient is briefed and informed of what to do and expect before, during and after surgery.  The New York acupuncturist does the same thing to his patient.  In this regard the acupuncturist needs to inform the patient of the dos and don’ts of acupuncture.

One of the first things the acupuncturist tells his patient is not to eat too much before and/or after the treatment.  He also will ask that the patient needs to refrain from consuming alcohol or any type of alcoholic beverages as well as not to engage in any sexual activity about 6 hours before and after acupuncture.  The procedure itself typically lasts about 45 minutes to more than an hour.  Typically you can take your prescription meds if needed before you go for your acupuncture treatment.  Some patients may see the results of acupuncture after two treatment sessions.  To make future sessions more productive, you can jot down the feelings you have experienced from your last session and relate them to your acupuncturist.  This will give the acupuncturist vital information and can modify his treatment procedures to make them even more effective than before.

Along with the acupuncture treatment itself, the acupuncturist may also combine herbal medicine to quicken and optimize the effects of the treatment.  If you are presently taking medications, you need to talk to your doctor first to see if it is safe to take the herbs along with your medications.  Pregnant females are discouraged to undergo acupuncture to keep both the baby and the mother safe.  She can go for acupuncture treatment as soon she has given birth.

The results of the treatment can vary depending on the skill of the acupuncturist.  You need to look for an acupuncturist who is qualified and experienced on the procedure that targets your particular health problem.  A good acupuncturist will have years of experience and the proper credentials to be able to determine an accurate diagnosis which leads to the right form of treatment for you.  His skill in performing the treatment should be impeccable enabling you to feel relaxed and comfortable during the procedure.  He will know exactly the acupoints to treat with acupuncture needles and know at what angle the needles should stay to optimize the effects of the needling process.  He also knows the different types of acupuncture and knows exactly what type is the one best suited for your condition.

To look for a good acupuncturist, you can ask your own doctor if he can refer any good and qualified practitioner for you.   You can also perform research on the internet and see if there is one whose office is near your place.  In the United States, there are about 3.000 registered acupuncture practitioners scattered throughout the country so finding a good one for you can be easy.

How to Reduce Anxiety Through Acupuncture

by Galina Semyonova on April 18, 2012

Acupuncture For Anxiety New YorkWith all of the stresses that men and women deal with every day, it’s no surprise that anxiety has become a serious problem in today’s culture. For many, mild to moderate anxiety may not seem to be that troublesome on a case by case basis, but the truth is that anxiety easily affects your behaviors in both your personal and professional life in ways you may not even realize, and it’s important to find a way to relieve anxiety in order to experience greater contentment and relaxation.

Yet there are very few effective and safe treatments for mild to moderate anxiety. Few people can afford counseling, and most medicines have side effects that cause greater problems than the anxiety they treat. If you suffer from anxiety, you need to be able to utilize a treatment that will both reduce or eliminate your anxiety and be safe enough to use whenever you feel your anxiety symptoms starting to increase.

Acupuncture as an Anxiety Treatment

It’s for this reason that acupuncture represents such an effective option for relieving stress and anxiety.  Unlike modern medicine, it is completely safe when handled by experts, and it’s far less costly and longer lasting than traditional counseling and therapy options. Acupuncture is also non-addictive, impossible to abuse, and can be used to reduce the effects of other issues that may be contributing to your overall anxiety levels.

Utilizing Acupuncture for Anxiety

For these reasons and more, acupuncture remains a valuable solution for dealing with anxiety and stress, especially if you have only mild to moderate anxiety (as well as more serious, debilitating anxiety). There are several points on the body that affect anxiety and mood. The P6, He5, and several other points are all effective for anxiety, while the GV20 and CV17 may be valuable points for relieving stress.

Your acupuncturist can easily work with you to decide what is causing your anxiety and stress, and see what points need to be used to help relieve it. Often the cause of anxiety is excess heat in the body. Using these acupuncture points and others, the acupuncturist will try to center your body’s qi. There are ample points that need to be hit to release the chi from your body, and it’s clear that there are several options on the body of those suffering from anxiety that can help eliminate it.

Acupuncture as a Long Term Solution

Anxiety is not only caused by what’s affecting you now, or what affected you in the past. It’s also caused by what happens to you in the future. Acupuncture addresses this as well. A trained acupuncturist will provide you with points that improve the health of your immune system, for example, and this will set you on a better path for dealing with some of the issues that can come up in life and feed into anxiety and stress. While this may not affect your anxiety now, it will reduce the chances of you developing greater anxiety in the future.

It is for these reasons and more that acupuncture represents such a valuable solution for treating anxiety and stress in today’s social environment. There are continuous causes of stress and anxiety that affect men and women of all ages. While acupuncture may not be a permanent anxiety cure, it represents a safe solution that you can integrate into your life regularly in order to drastically cut down on some of the issues that lead to these and other mental health problems both now and in the future.

Fighting Cancer with Acupuncture

by Galina Semyonova on July 29, 2011

Traditionally, there has been the tendency to treat cancer with modern medical techniques. While these methods do help the body get rid of cancer, there are other factors that contribute to the health of cancer patients. Pain, stress, and decrease in immune system functions are all symptoms of cancer that modern medicine has trouble dealing with in a definitive way.

Acupuncture New York CityAcupuncture, placing long thin needles at certain points throughout the body, is a method that is becoming more popular in conjunction with modern medicine. It contributes in a way that modern medicine cannot. By alleviating negative sensations without the use of addictive and immune system damaging chemicals, acupuncture can greatly benefit the cancer patient. Patients with aggressive cancers such as mesothelioma can profit from acupuncture due to its ability to decrease symptoms such as stress and pain without the need to inject the body with any sort of foreign substance.

Sensations such as muscle spasms, itching, and burning are all associated with cancer diagnoses.

Acupuncture can relieve these symptoms by relaxing the body in a natural way. However, it really takes a supporting role in its fight, as it does less for the treatment of cancer than it does for the alleviation of cancer treatments themselves. The alleviation of these symptoms can still increase life expectancy though, and acupuncture can be used as often as necessary without any threat of harm to the body.

Treatments for cancer such as chemotherapy can cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These side effects have a profound effect upon the lives of cancer patients, causing discomfort. Usually drugs are given for these symptoms. However, drugs are addictive and can also leave the body’s immune system weakened, which makes it harder for it to fight off the cancer. By alleviating the symptoms of chemotherapy without the need for drugs, acupuncture can make a tremendous difference in the comfort of cancer patients.

Acupuncture has also been shown to relieve stress. The effects of stress upon the body are becoming clearer with time. It is now known that stressed individuals tend to be more prone to sickness. By clearing stress, acupuncture can help a body keep up a healthy immune system and beneficial exercise, which can help to not only fight the cancerous cells themselves, but also any other sicknesses that threaten the health of the individual. A healthy immune system increases the body’s capacity to fight cancer, as it decreases the amount of effort necessary to keep the body healthy.  Mesothelioma life expectancy, as well as many other cancers, can be increased through the use of traditional western medicine. However, the methods employed to treat cancer can often leave the body in stressed and in pain, with heavy burden to the immune system. Using drugs to alleviate these symptoms can often cause more harm than good. For this reason, traditional methods for cancer treatment such as chemotherapy can benefit from the synthesis of acupuncture and other stress relieving techniques.

Acupuncture as an Infertility Therapy

by Galina Semyonova on July 24, 2011

Acupuncture Infertility in New YorkAcupuncture for treating infertility is a magnificent treatment and should be in the top of one’s list when seriously considering having a baby.  Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical procedure that has been used for thousands of years as a cure for several kinds of health conditions.  However, this treatment involves the use of needles and may conjure up fearful associations of painful injections or vaccines on an individual.  The fact is New York infertility acupuncture is a relatively painless treatment that induces a feeling of tranquility and relaxation during the better part of the treatment.

Acupuncture is part and parcel of traditional Chinese medicine, which follows a belief that there exists a balanced flow of energy in the body that keeps the body healthy; if this balance is disturbed various health conditions arise.  This energy is called chi and travels through invisible energy vessels called meridians.  Needles are inserted in certain parts of the body to remove any obstructions to chi flow.  Removing the energy blockages and restoring normal chi flow normalizes body functions and returns good health to the body.

Infertility is defined as the inability to produce or conceive a child.  A 2011 study stated that about 2/5 of women are unable to conceive, which is quite a staggering statistic.  The conditions of endometriosis and blocked fallopian tubes are the most reported diagnosed causes of infertility.  Acupuncture can be very good for infertility cases that are non-structural in nature.  Problems like anovulation, hormonal imbalance, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), irregular ovulation and menstruation and luteal phase, defect, etc. are all functional problems that acupuncture can most effectively treat.

Most people would try Western medical conventional ways to treat infertility first and only as a last option will they consider acupuncture.  Acupuncture is by far, the cheapest treatment for infertility.  It takes several treatment sessions of acupuncture before substantial results are seen.  Each session takes around 30 to 45 minutes.

Acupuncture can use several techniques for treatment.  Some of the techniques used are electrified therapies, manual or ear acupuncture.  With electrified acupuncture, the needles are attached to electricity generating gadgets that send out low and weak electrical impulses top stimulate the body’s energy flow.  With ear or auricular acupuncture the acupuncturist inserts needles on the outer ear to correct the hormonal imbalances in women.  Manual acupuncture combines the use of herbal medicine or moxibustion with acupuncture needles to treat a specific infertility disorder.

Acupuncture removes stress from the body.  This is a very important factor since too much stress can lead to impotency and infertility.  Acupuncture helps stimulate the release of endorphins to take away stress and to improve blood flow to the reproductive system. This nourishes the ovaries and the sexual organs and reinforces the uterine wall that prevents miscarriages during pregnancy.  These factors all contribute to an environment conducive to conception.

Facts About Acupuncture Needle

by Kenneth on June 14, 2010

An acupuncture needle is very small and thin. The thickness of a needle is like a piece of your hair. Basically, acupuncture is different from western medicine because they are inserted into points that represent different places along the energy channel. This means that acupuncturists will place needles in different parts of the body. Although it may seem weird that very thin needles are placed in your legs when you are having stomach pains, but this form of ancient Chinese medicine is one of the most effective treatments to certain ailments.

It is fact that a lot of people get anxious when they hear the word needle and it is understandable that needles are used for acupuncture. But rest assured the needles used in acupuncture are not like the ones used for blood tests or vaccines. Basically, acupuncture needles are very, very small and thin.

To people who receive acupuncture, they reported that they feel a bit of pressure when the needle is inserted. There some individuals who might feel mild pain and others would feel nothing at all but once the needles are inserted in the acupuncture points you shouldn’t feel any discomfort at all. Some individuals even fall asleep during the treatment.

A lot may be wondering if they can get an infection from acupuncture procedure because of the needles used. You can’t get an infection from acupuncture needles since the needles are sterile and they can only be used for one treatment for each patient. The only side effect is the slight bruising where the needles have been inserted but this type of risk is lower that a regular type of injection.

Acupuncture has a lot of benefits but the most obvious advantage is it can provide relief from nausea, pain and other symptoms. Second advantage is that it usually causes no side effects and you may feel relaxed after the treatment.

The required acupuncture treatment may vary for each individual and there are many reasons why you need to get a treatment. Whether your problem is chronic or acute or if you have more than once condition, determining how many acupuncture treatments you will get might help. Acute problems generally get better after a couple of treatments but chronic conditions may take about one to two visit per week for many months.  Acupuncturists in New York will work with you to help you decide how many treatments you may need.

The good thing about acupuncture treatment is that you can take any medication that your health care provider prescribes for you. It is also important that you inform your acupuncturist and health care provider what medicines you are taking so that they can help you get the most from the treatments.

There are some insurance companies that would cover acupuncture treatments. The American Academy of Medical Acupuncture is working with insurance companies to let acupuncture treatments be covered by all insurance companies.
